The name of our company, Fender’s Blue Hemp, originated from the name of a butterfly. The Fender’s Blue butterfly is an endangered subspecies of butterfly that is found primarily in the Willamette Valley of northwestern Oregon. These butterflies are attracted to a native lupine flower, which is abundant beside our hemp farm.

Product FAQs

The FDA and USDA are two separate government organizations. Our product is certified organic by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), which regulates farming in the United States and is the organization that certifies farms and products as organic. The National Organic Program (NOP) is managed by the USDA, and NOP regulates the official use of the USDA organic logo as well as the term “organic”. The Food and Drug Administration oversees ingredients, supplements, food and drugs, thus it serves a different purpose from the USDA.

Both our farm in Philomath and our processing partner in St Helens have been certified organic by the USDA. Learn more about USDA organic certification here.

There are a lot of various products that are labeled “cruelty free”, “vegan”, or “vegan-friendly”, but not all of these products are certified vegan by a governing body. Fender’s Blue Hemp went through a rigorous process and application to become certified vegan by Vegan Action and the Vegan Awareness Foundation. We proudly stamp the certified vegan label on each product. Learn more about vegan certification here.

The taste of hemp is very strong, and you should expect this with each batch. Know that you can always add a serving of your hemp oil to any drink, smoothie or food item if you are looking to minimize the taste.

We use Supercritical CO2 extraction, meaning that we introduce CO2 into a chamber where the hemp is housed. Then, with a combination of pressure, temperature, and time, the CO2 enters a ‘supercritical’ state where it becomes both a gas and a liquid at the same time, allowing for very specific extractions to occur. CO2 extraction has been around for a long time and is generally considered one of the cleanest, purest forms of botanical extraction. We take an artisan approach with a low temp and slow extraction process, which preserves the plants most healing elements and leaves behind stuff that we don’t need, like waxes. We do no further post-processing. The oil never touches ethanol. It is unadulterated.

We recommend that you store our product in a cool, dry, dark place and keep it away from direct sunlight. Our oil drops do not need to be stored in the refrigerator.

A typical serving size is 0.5 mL. Please note that individuals of a smaller or larger body mass may need to adjust their doses accordingly.

While we believe CBD is safe when used in appropriate doses for all humans and pets, we recommend that you speak with your child’s pediatrician or your veterinarian before starting any medical regimen.

CBD FAQs

Passing the 2018 Farm Bill legalized the farming, processing and sale of all hemp-derived products in the United States. This bill also removed hemp from the Controlled Substances Act, which was a huge win for the industry!

Nope! The component of the cannabis plant that makes you feel high is called THC. The 2018 Farm Bill requires all hemp products to contain less than 0.3% of THC, and all of our products are below that threshold, which means you will not feel high from your serving.

The side effects that we have experienced from CBD are positive: relaxation, a sense of calm, better sleep, mood regulation, and so many more benefits. However, we are not licensed medical professionals and we encourage you to speak with your physician if you are concerned about any negative side effects.

In our bodies, we often feel the positive effects within minutes of consumption, and sometimes within an hour or two. This varies greatly from person to person.

Most drug tests in the workplace screen for THC, not CBD, also known as cannabidiol. If a workplace tests for cannabidiol, you may not pass the test while consuming our product. Our THC composition is less than 0.3%, so while it is unlikely for this product to cause a failed drug test for THC, it certainly is possible. If a workplace is testing for THC and you are worried about not passing, you may reconsider the use of this product until a better time.

There is a limited amount of government research and studies completed on CBD due to the legalities of the industry until 2018, so as business and as consumers we have minimal official knowledge of how CBD interacts specifically with certain foods, supplements, or medications. Our personal experience is that CBD has only been safe and has enhanced our general well-being in combination with plant-based eating, exercise, and a variety of vitamins and other supplements. If you are concerned about CBD interacting with something specific in your diet or wellness regimen, we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider before introducing CBD.

With the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp and CBD products are federally legalized so long as the composition of THC is 0.3% or lower. This means that you are able to travel across state lines and fly domestically with our product. Laws regarding CBD are different in every country - please note that we do not recommend traveling internationally with CBD. Please refer to the TSA website for more information regarding traveling with cannabis.
