Fender's Blue Hemp Cause of The Month - Burrito Brigade

In the blink of an eye, we are already halfway through 2021 - Happy July! This month our team is celebrating and partnering with Burrito Brigade, a nonprofit located in Eugene/Springfield, OR. Burrito Brigade tackles a very large problem in our community, food insecurity, by hand-delivering vegan meals for free - and not just any meal - vegan burritos! Burrito Brigade specifically delivers meals on Saturdays and Sundays, which are more challenging days of the week for those who are food insecure to access nutritious food and other services. Their team has been operating since 2014, and to date, they have served over 250,000 burritos! Burrito Brigade has also expanded their services to Portland which has had an even greater reach for those in need.

But their work doesn’t stop there! In addition to weekly meal deliveries, Burrito Brigade also supports a handful of other resources and programs in the community. First, Burrito Brigade has established a multitude of “Little Free Pantries” across the Eugene and Springfield areas. These are similar to the Little Free Libraries seen around town, but instead of books, the free pantries are stocked full of canned and other non-perishable food items that community members can contribute to or take from as desired. The motto set forth by Burrito Brigade for this service is, “Give what you can and take what you need”, which makes for an exceptionally impactful and sustainable resource.

Another resource Burrito Brigade provides is the Solidarity Share Fare, which links individuals to resources, services, and connects one another. This unique service allows those in need to access essential items, assistance, and personal connections. The exceptional aspect about this service is that anyone is welcome without barriers: no questions asked, no forms are required to be completed, and no one is turned away. This service is also sometimes mobile, in which their team hands out care packages to those who have expressed interest.

It’s hard to believe this organization has more to offer, but they do! The final service Burrito Brigade offers is called Waste to Taste, which is a food box program. Burrito Brigade teams up with local grocers, bakeries, restaurants and farms to gather food donations and uses those food items to create a free grocery store that community members can shop at and fill food boxes during the week.

We are incredibly impressed with Burrito Brigade, the quality of their work, and their positive contributions to our community. We know we partnered with a fantastic organization this month, and they deserve the spotlight. Visit Burrito Brigade’s website if you would like to learn more about their cause, or if you are interested in getting involved.

As always, a portion of all of our sales through the end of July will be donated to our Cause of the Month.
